Cartoon 4

The above cartoon was created by Michael Ramirez for the Los Angeles Times. The comic depicts a young and weak Christmas tree being sheltered from the cold by a blue blanket with the words "Obama's promises" written on it while a red ornament weighs the whole tree down with the words "Debt" written on it. This comic is a mockery of the end of the Charlie Brown Christmas special and the comic as a whole is supposed to represent the dire situation the country is at present. The Christmas tree is supposed to represent America's economy while Obama's promises to protect said economy have little effect on helping the economy, because of the debt that's weighing it down.

Although America's economy has been stabilized for now by Obama's massive spending it has made his future promises a little too farfetched, because of how much money we do owe. Don't get me wrong, I think Obama's plan to spend that money with his stimulus bill was the right thing to do and that it saved us from complete catastrophe, but I also believe that if Obama wants to keep the present promises he has been making and increase his approval ratings with the voters he's going to have to get more proactive and find a way to lower our debt and stop using money we don't have. If that means cutting  back on some programs so be it, but I think we should hold off on cutting anymore money from social programs and start looking to cut more from military and homeland security programs that have been literally eating away at huge portions of our countries income. Also creating more of a home based economy would help as well, not only with the debt but with job creation too.
